Just as [livejournal.com profile] antoniseb is, I am dying with the Red Sox, but I am not ready to give up yet.

On a related note, the student-fans at Florida State University have a gerat site (I will find it), and on there are a series of definitions of what a "fan" is and does.

  • A fan believes his voice can change the momentum of a game.

  • A fan is a person miserable in defeat and intolerable in victory.

  • A fan believes in only one absolute - - the fat lady.

  • A fan knows that the outcome of a game hinges on whether or not the K's are put on the pole correctly.

  • A fan is like a parent, who loves you even when you stink.

  • A fan knows that it ISN'T just a game.

  • A fan believes that every new game is a chance at redemption.

  • A single fan is worth a hundred spectators.

I thought the eighth inning was a lot worse than the ninth. Home runs happen, but the eighth was sloppy all around - and not just the throwing error either.

Many years ago, I was at a Red Sox game on one of Meredith's "company" tickets, so a lot of people from Boston Technology were there. After the bottom of the 7th, the Sox were done something like 6-2, and the guy in front of us tells his kids they're leaving to avoid the rush. I ended up commenting "what kind of a father forces his kids to leave a baseball game just to get a leg up on traffic?"

Yep, we rally in the eighth, and go on to win the game 8-6, or some such score. Turns out the guy was in manufacturing, and Meredith said any time she walked by, he was very carefully polite.

Anyway, the key is to make it into the playoffs. Then we can at least take our shot.

To quote Gen. Buford from Gettysburg . . .

"and be butchered, valiantly."

But he and his men won the battle, or at least, set it up so Chamberlain and his could.

Hey babe,
Glad your eye is getting better! Do you know, or can you ask, if your youngest wants to make some $ Sat 8/14 at Pennsic? We need someone to check ID's for Mistress Michaeles memorial.

Thanks!

Being a masochist is a requirement for being a Red Sox fan, huh? Then next one of you bastards to say "This is our year!" is getting a steel toe to the friggin temple.
