And, lo . . . the sun
May. 16th, 2006 10:33 pmWell it looks as though we are not going to relive Genesis 6:5-22 after all.
The sun came out today.
Of course, the downtown area of the town in which I teach is still under water, and we have no school tomorrow.
This is not a whole lot of fun, and it means the MCAS testing next week's gonna be a real zoo.
I am glad that I didn't make plane reservations to go anwaywhere the day after school was supposed to end. It now looks as though we'll be going that entire week with June 23 the last day for teachers. (I talked to a colleague tonight who has made such reservations).
If you saw the picture on the front page of the Boston Globe, Boston Herald or New York Times, you saw the flooding in Peabody.
Oh, and here's the story from the Salem News. The folks in Peabody are not happy with Ol' Mitt.
PEABODY — When Gov. Mitt Romney vetoed nearly $6 million in flood-prevention funding for Peabody in 2004, his spokeswoman said the governor didn't have enough information about why the money was needed.
He has it now.
On Sunday, Romney visited Peabody, where the weekend storm left some parts of the city under 5 feet of water. According to those who were there with him, the governor promised to secure state and federal money not just to help the city recover from this flood, but to help it avoid similar disasters in the future.
