1. Announcements you do not generally expect to see while it is still "summer."
Glens Falls Post-Star
The region's growing season will likely end tonight as the first frost of the season is forecast for much of the area.
The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for most of Warren, Washington and parts of Saratoga counties, as cold air from Canada moves in and drops temperatures into the low to mid-30s early Sunday.
Delicate plants, such as tomatoes, and many types of flowers, should be covered or moved inside if possible.
2. I am apparently the Harbinger of Blowouts for the home football teams I cover. Home teams are 1-4 in games I have been at. I am going back to Salem this afternoon, and I have a feeling the Generals are gonna get wrecked by Lake George.
Example: Last week, I covered Greenwich on the road at Salem, and the Witches won, 39-0.
Last night, at home, they lost to Cambridge, 41-0.
Yes, I think Cambridge could beat Salem, 80-0.
3. I love
rufinia. For any number of reasons. We are blessed to have her here in the East.
One thing I really like about her is her news judgment, in terms of stories that would interest me. She was the one who turned for on to the Mark Whicker story, and yesterday, she offered this:
Rivals cooperate on touchdown for player with Down Syndrome
4. I read a lot of series, and it's a novel surprise when I see one on the bookshelf that I was not anticipating. In this case, "The Traffickers," the new Badge of Honor book by W.E.B. Griffin.
5. Words to strike fear into any cat-owner: "Honey, what's the cat doing?" when asked in a slightly alarmed voice.
6. My e-mail box seems quiet lately -- ever since I left EK List. ;)
