I am rather upset with various aspects of the SCA Board of Directors' latest attempt to ask about membership issues and "pay-for-play."

On a variety of levels.

Then there's the whole stupid stereotyping issue that was bouncing around the SCA LJ.

I am also upset that the garage that inspected the truck did some unexpected work on the brake lines (because they were leaking), and now I basically have no breaks.

I am also getting really depressed with these stories about fathers killing their kids (or men killing their girlfriends' babies).

I started a screaming rant earlier, but abandoned it.

I learned a long time ago that I should not let SCA issues bug me, but I hate it when peopel don't get it.

I also need to know worry about people's individual comments, but stereotyping really bothers me.

The truck, well, I already called them and told them [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid would bring it to them in the morning so they could fix it. I was polite when I left the message.

There's not much I can do about evil in the world.

OK, I think I feel a little better.

In almost every case, when a child is killed by a parent, it is their father who does the killing.

This may be regrettable, but it is not unusual. It is so not unusual that when mothers kill their kids, it's splashed all over the news, but when fathers kill their kids, it gets three lines on page 7.

That's an excellent point.

What drew me to the cases I am referring to was mostly the fact that it was multiple kids -- four today, two on Sunday.

I was originally going to reference the articles. There's also one up where the boyfriend killed the girlfriend's daughter.

Family annihilators, or simple child murder?

Suicide increases around the holidays; I wouldn't be surprised to find that child murder does as well.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest risk factors for women to be murdered it to be pregnant or to have recently given birth.

It's depressing.

Yes, and this is not just a function of the recent trend toward "eighth month" type murders with acquisition of the infant as a goal. Most murdered pregnant women are killed by their partner.

Yesterday's threw four kids off a bridge after a fight with his wife.

Sunday's killed two of four stepchildren.

Yeah, I would be willing to bet there is a linkage to the holidays in the first one. In times of stress, people do irrational things.

Also, I believe the stress our culture is currently under makes a huge difference--I have read a couple of studies that indicate that in times of societal stress people abandon/kill infants more often; I suspect the same is true of child murder, that it happens more often when the emotional climate is tense.
