Really holding back . . .
Jan. 9th, 2008 10:27 pmI am rather upset with various aspects of the SCA Board of Directors' latest attempt to ask about membership issues and "pay-for-play."
On a variety of levels.
Then there's the whole stupid stereotyping issue that was bouncing around the SCA LJ.
I am also upset that the garage that inspected the truck did some unexpected work on the brake lines (because they were leaking), and now I basically have no breaks.
I am also getting really depressed with these stories about fathers killing their kids (or men killing their girlfriends' babies).
I started a screaming rant earlier, but abandoned it.
I learned a long time ago that I should not let SCA issues bug me, but I hate it when peopel don't get it.
I also need to know worry about people's individual comments, but stereotyping really bothers me.
The truck, well, I already called them and told them
alethea_eastrid would bring it to them in the morning so they could fix it. I was polite when I left the message.
There's not much I can do about evil in the world.
OK, I think I feel a little better.

Date: 2008-01-10 03:45 am (UTC)This may be regrettable, but it is not unusual. It is so not unusual that when mothers kill their kids, it's splashed all over the news, but when fathers kill their kids, it gets three lines on page 7.

Date: 2008-01-10 04:05 am (UTC)What drew me to the cases I am referring to was mostly the fact that it was multiple kids -- four today, two on Sunday.
I was originally going to reference the articles. There's also one up where the boyfriend killed the girlfriend's daughter.

Date: 2008-01-10 04:25 am (UTC)Suicide increases around the holidays; I wouldn't be surprised to find that child murder does as well.

Date: 2008-01-10 04:09 pm (UTC)Also, I believe the stress our culture is currently under makes a huge difference--I have read a couple of studies that indicate that in times of societal stress people abandon/kill infants more often; I suspect the same is true of child murder, that it happens more often when the emotional climate is tense.

But it's Shark humor.

I was following three "boyfriend kills baby" stories around Christmas.
I appreciate the comment.

Date: 2008-01-12 01:27 am (UTC)Re: pay-to-play
Date: 2008-01-12 01:59 am (UTC)My issues are more with the board itself, but I think forcing people to be members goes against the SCA as I know it.
I also know this is a kingdom-specific thing.
I would like to know why the board wants to do this before we do it.
Re: I would like to know
Date: 2008-01-12 02:14 am (UTC)Mostly I was just pejoratively finding a way to make "pay-for-play" a cheaper prospect than the current state.
